Privacy policy

What we collect
- Free accounts: your email address, the products and countries you ask us to watch, whether you sell into or out of the US, and when you signed up.
- Free brief requests: your email address, the product you name, whether you sell into or out of the US, and when you asked.
- Emails: your email address and what you write when you contact us or reply to a brief.
- Website requests: Cloudflare, which hosts this site, processes your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks.
- Visit counts: Cloudflare Web Analytics counts the pages viewed, the site you came from, and your country, browser and type of device. It uses no cookies and no other identifier, so we only ever see totals, never a person.
- Monthly update visits: links in your monthly update carry a code for your account. When you open one, we record that your account came back that month, once a month, and nothing else about the visit.
Why we use it
- To send the brief you asked for and follow up about it, because you asked us to. For visitors in the EU and UK, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering your request.
- To run your free account: sending the alerts and briefs you signed up for, telling you before paid plans start, and answering your questions. For visitors in the EU and UK, the legal basis is our contract with you to provide the service.
- To keep the site secure and working, which is our legitimate interest.
- To learn which pages are useful and how many account holders come back each month, so we know whether the service is worth building further, which is our legitimate interest.
We don't sell your personal data or share it for advertising. We only send other marketing emails if you agree to them, and each one tells you how to opt out.
Who we share it with
- Cloudflare hosts the website, counts visits, stores free accounts, brief requests and monthly update visits, and forwards emails sent to hello@lanelytic.com. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- [Email provider] holds the emails we send and receive.
- Professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers, when we need their help, and authorities when the law requires it.
Where it is stored
Our providers may store and process data in Canada, the United States and other countries. When data about people in the EU or UK is transferred outside those regions, we rely on our providers' standard contractual clauses or other approved safeguards.
How long we keep it
- Free accounts: until you close your account, then deleted within 30 days.
- Free brief requests: up to 24 months after our last contact with you, then deleted.
- Emails: as long as needed to deal with what you asked, and no more than 24 months after that.
- Monthly update visits: 13 months, then deleted automatically.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies and uses no advertising trackers. Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without cookies and without following you across other sites.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it or delete it, and you can withdraw your consent to follow-up emails at any time. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also ask us to restrict or stop processing your data, and to give you a copy in a portable format.
Email hello@lanelytic.com and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or to the data protection authority where you live.
Security
We use reputable providers, limit access to personal data to those who need it, and serve the whole site over HTTPS. If a breach puts you at real risk of harm, we'll tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
Children
Lanelytic is a business service and isn't intended for anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
We'll post updates here with a new date, and email account holders about significant changes.
